| Jangheung is a pleasant place well harmonized with mountains, sea and fields as it is located on the coastal mountains of Gangjin Bay. Located in southernmost area of Jeollanamdo, Jangheung borders on Hwasun and Boseong County in Southeastern area and Deukryang gulf. And it borders on Goheung eastward and Wando County southward. The total area of Jangheung is 618§´, which is corresponding to 5.1% of the gross area of South Jeolla Province(12,073§´). Within the total dimension, forestland occupies 411.9§´ (66.7%), farmland area 142.5§´ (23.1%) and the rest counts for 63.6§´ (10.3%). |

In the Northern area and Southwestern area, Jangheung is surrounded by mountains and borders on Yeongam and Gangjin. There are the plains around Boseong River and Deukryang gulf. Mountains in Jangheung County are related to Noryong Mountains including Mt. Bongmi, Mt. Gaji (509.9m) and Mt. Saja.
About 20 streams join and flow to Tamjin River, one of the biggest rivers. It is called, "Yeyang River" and flows to Gangjin gulf, joining with Jakcheon stream. There are fertile plains; Yongban, Busan, and Handeul, around river. They are famous for plenty of produce and fish in summer.
Since it belongs to warm monsoon climate area, it has four distinctive seasons and climate, suitable for human activities. The average temperature of January is 1.8¡É below zero, and the average temperature of August is 26.5¡É. The compound annual temperature is 13.2¡É, and the annual precipitation is 1,678.6mm. In the summer from June to September, Jangheung receives 66% of the total annual precipitation, providing good conditions for farming and livestock rising.
Jangheung has specialties including Pyogo mushroom, apricot, and laver, produced from a clean environment, pollution-free soils and clear watersheds. They are different from those produced in other areas in taste and scent, thus very popular in large cities.
Besides the famous Temple Borim (the first temple that "Seon sect" was introduced and settled in Korea), there are 42 Treasures and 60 other designated cultural assets in Jangheung.
