Haenam, located at the left bottom of Korean peninsula, is adjoining with Gangjin to the east, Yeongam as well as Mokpo to the north, Wando to the southwest across sea, Jindo to the southwest, and Shinan to the west. The size of county is 907 km©÷, which is the largest county of South Jeolla Province as 7.5% and one percent of Korean peninsula. It makes up 1 town and 13 subcounties with the population of 84,720 as of December, 2006.

From old times, Haenam was the entrance of an important route through which the culture of the continent was imported. Geographically, it is situated on the end of Sobaek mountains range.

Haenam is in the oceanic climate of southern Korea, winter and summer are long and a temperature difference is not much. It is oceanic mild climate, so the climate is proper to agriculture and fishery. The year average temperature of Haenam area is 13.3 ¨¬C. The average temperature is the highest in August, averaging 26.8 ¨¬C, and it is the lowest in January averaging 2.1 ¨¬C. The rainfall of Haenam is year average approximately 1,385.5mm. The most precipitation is shown in the summer, when the northern Pacific Ocean appears, while the lowest precipitation appears in winter.

A few years ago, it was very inconvenient to access the County largely owing to the underdevelopment of transportation. With the opening of West Coast Expressway and Muan International Airport, and the double tracking of the Honam Railroad, now it can be easily accessible domestically and internationally. As of December, 2006, the number of companies registered in Haenam was 5,321 with 17,468 employees. In terms of industrial structure, it is composed of Primary 51%, secondary 12%, and tertiary 37%. In 2006 alone, Haenam¡¯s trade volume amounted to US$34 Million with US$5 Million in export and US$29 Million in imports.

Currently, in collaboration with neighboring Yeongam County, Haenam is seeking to develop the Enterprises City centering on leisure & tour, where it accommodates Theme park, marina, F1 track, hotels, golf course, casino, residential homes, schools, etc.
Haenam County, located at the southernmost point of the Korean Peninsula, is better known as 'Land's End'. Surrounded by sea on three sides, it is blessed with natural scenic beauty and famous for historic cultural relics. It has a 1000-year-old Buddhist temple, Daehungsa and the Gosan historical site. Recently Uhang-ri dinosaur site is chosen as a natural monument. The patriots' spirit has firmly been embedded in the county since the Japanese invasion of 1592.

Haenam has warm marine climate and fertile soil and produces various good qualities of agricultural products. These products are Chinese cabbages which can be also produced in wintertime and rice that are grown in strict controlled production and agriculture fields without pollution. Also, the ocean of Haenam has conditions that were given by the heaven, and it is very pure. There are many marine products that are good for the health of modern day men because they are reared organically.
